All my marketing classes teach cold calling that it is still a good marketing tool. Here is where I disagree with the textbooks. Calling someone who more than likely doesn't want to be called is not going to help sales, but rather could hurt sales. Personally if i received calls from a company or organization and told them not to call back but they do, I would not want to have anything to do with them again.
My own example and this is what led me to the decision I could never cold call again. I worked for a company (I won't name them by name). They had new customers fill out a page with their information so we can contact them later on to help with wedding plans. Well every shift we were required to call customers that had come in and urge them to come back and buy the dress they saw, bring in family or bridal party for dresses, or to check on them. While the idea does not sound bad, it was. If you looked through the call log you could see how many times these people had been called and they didn't answer, or said do not call me again. I then didn't want to call them, but my boss made me and I wanted to keep my job. While that's not really true cold calling but more warm calling, its all the same to me. I can not justify calling people that much who really don't want to be called.
Please, don't be fooled that cold calling is a good option. if someone doesn't call you back after you calling them 2-3 times, just stop. Obviously that person doesn't want to do what you want or talk and before you lose a customer forever, try to recover a relationship and hope they come on their own when they need your services.
